Training To Become A Fitness Model

Fitness Model Training

To become a fitness model, you have to be fit, patient and diligent. Fitness models are very different from fashion models and bodybuilders. Becoming a model of any kind, whether for fashion or health, is a tough challenge. A fitness model must be physically fit, strong and lean without having hard core abs and over defined muscles like bodybuilders do. A female fitness model has to retain the feminine, pretty and soft look that hard muscles cannot yield.

It is easier to become a fitness model if you meet the physical requirements and if you are single, good-looking, adventurous and with a flexible schedule in case you are required to travel for photo shoots.

Unlike fashion models that grace runways and cover pages for clothes and make-up, fitness models grace covers of lifestyle, fitness or health magazines and promote supplements.

Here are steps you should take to carve a fitness modeling career for yourself:

  • Hire a personal trainer – Unlike runway models, you are not to starve yourself and fit yourself in 0 size. You have to get physically fit and meet the competition weight. Remember that fitness models have to look great in active and swim wear.
  • Consult a dietician or nutritionist – You have to have a healthy lifestyle that means no smoking and none to minimal alcohol intake. Have healthy meal and snack plans. Consult a dietician to meet your health goals.
  • Hire a professional photographer to take multiple shots of you: casual, glamour, head shots, body, in swim wear, still and active shots. You must have a portfolio to show to potential clients, professional fitness photographers and agencies.
  • Find an agent or agency. Models find work easier when represented by agents and agencies.
  • Attend go-sees. These are job interviews for models that require portfolios.

What Is A Fitness Model

What is a fitness model

Although there is no clear path and definition, a fitness model is a physically fit individual that models fitness equipment and apparels. He or she often promotes health and nutritional supplements. Models that you see gracing health and fitness magazines and exercise videos are fitness models. If you have noticed, these models are not sporting hard bulky muscles on their arms and abs.

A fitness model is physically fit and healthy. He or she is not underweight like fashion models are. Closely similar to bodybuilders, this type of models has muscle definition and toned body. Bodybuilders, however, dedicate their time in building hard muscles and seriously carved abs for bodybuilding competitions. Female fitness models are to maintain their feminine and soft look. Male fitness models must not be bulky, but with muscle symmetry.

There is no room for drugs, cigarettes and alcohol in a fitness model’s life. As their career lies on their physical attributes, they hire personal trainers to meet and maintain their weight requirements. A fitness model must have an appealing physique that turns heads anywhere they go. He or she must work hard to maintain that attractiveness and appeal by building muscles on the right places without losing too much fat.

The idea behind a fitness model training program is to build the right muscles for his or her body’s appropriate size. The program is to build solid muscles. Unlike body builders and gym rats, a fitness model training program must burn off fats that cover muscles for a lean, toned and hot body.

This type of models may or may not have agents or agencies handling their career. There are a lot of freelance fitness models. Although this type of career won’t make one rich, some do it for the fame while others  pursue it for the recognition.

Diet Tips For Fitness Models

Are you an aspiring fitness model? Breaking through any modelling industry is a tough challenge. Every model’s asset and source of income is a fit body. If you have noticed, models are not all beautiful and handsome. But they all have one thing in common: a hot appealing body. Be it a fashion model, sports model or fitness model, all models stick to a strict diet to maintain their body and meet the industry’s standards.

With fitness models, diets are well-balanced. That means no diet suppressant pills, no drugs and alcohol intake, no smoking and above all they don’t subject themselves to hunger strikes. A fitness model has an appealing physique and a healthy diet. They live by the motto “the best diet is a balanced diet.” And balance, indeed. A fitness model diet consists of a huge portion of protein, minimum carbohydrates and lots of water.

A fitness model must eat 5 to 6 times a day or every 3 to 4 hours to keep fresh and energize. Breakfasts should not be skipped and one should not starve himself. Focus on protein intake and minimize carbohydrates. Drink at least 2 litters a day or at most a gallon to stay hydrated. Supplements are not really recommended but protein shakes come in handy.

Eat lots of egg whites, lean chicken breast, lean turkey and lean beef. For carbohydrates, you may eat brown rice, oatmeal, yams, farina and whole wheat pasta. Other great food choices are salmon, tuna, beans, sweet potatoes, olive oil, cottage cheese, vegetables and fruits. In poultry, choose white meat and go skinless. Replace white sugar, bread, rice and pasta with brown sugar, whole-wheat bread, brown rice and whole-wheat pasta.

A balance diet will help you lose excess fats. But to be on top shape, you have to work hard on your fitness training program.
